Srinagar, Sep 24 (KNO): Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union on Thursday held a protest outside the Civil Secretariat and Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly here, demanding enhancement of honorarium, timely monthly payments and social security benefits.
The protesters, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), highlighted their demands, including an increase in the UT share of honorarium, release of pending Poshan Tracker payments since September 2025 and timely disbursement of Community Based Event (CBE) charges.
Union president Hanifa Akhter told KNO the present honorarium is inadequate amid rising prices and the responsibilities handled by Anganwadi workers and helpers. “We demand enhancement of the honorarium by increasing the UT share and a proper mechanism for regular monthly payment. The present honorarium is not sufficient to meet our needs,” Akhter said.
She also sought enhancement of the UT share on the pattern of states and Union Territories, including Delhi, Puducherry, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala and Haryana.
Later, a union delegation met Mission Director, ICDS, Sajjad Ahmad Ganaie, and apprised him of their demands. The Mission Director assured the delegation that the issues would be considered sympathetically, the union said—(KNO)
